We’re not sure whether to call it a film or a video game, but Lucasfilm promises a new journey into the Star Wars universe through the developing frontier of virtual reality.

The company will combine forces with Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound to create ILMxLAB, a division devoted to “experiential entertainment”. From this laboratory, work is in progress to create a universe “on a scale that has never been seen before.”

Specific projects are promised to be announced within the year.
